Bertha (Jones) Cronkhite, 86, of West Lebanon, died at Woodland Manor in Attica Thursday morning, July 5, 1973. She had been in ill health 16 months. She was born in Warren County Nov. 24, 1886 and was a life resident of that county, moving to West Lebanon in 1925. She was married in 1910 at Marshfield to L. C. Cronkhite, who died in 1949. She graduated from West Lebanon High School in 1907 and from the old "Normals" at Valparaiso and Danville Ind. She taught school in Warren county, was the West Lebanon librarian, former town clerk, and was the oldest member of the Marshfield Presbyterian church. She was past Republican Warren Co. charwoman and president of the Republican Women's Club. Friends may call at the Fisher Funeral Home in West Lebanon from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. Friday. Funeral services there at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, Rev. Wm. Thompson officiating. Burial in West Lebanon cemetery.

West Lebanon, Ind. - Mrs. Bertha Jones Cronkhite, 86, of West Lebanon, a former librarian and town clerk, died at 2:15 a.m. Thursday (July 5, 1973) at the Woodland Manor Nursing Home in Attica. She had been a patient since May 10 and had been ill for the past 16 months. Born Nov. 24, 1886, in Kent Township, Warren County, she was the daughter of Oscar and Mary Cronkhite Jones. She was married March 3, 1910, in Marshfield to L. C. Cronkhite, who died Sept. 26, 1949. She had resided in Warren County all of her life and had been a resident of West Lebanon since 1925. She graduated from West Lebanon High in 1907. She attended the teacher colleges at Valparaiso and Danville and taught in several Warren County schools. Mrs. Cronkhite was a past chairman of the Warren County Republican Central Committee, past president of the Republican Woman's Club and was a past Republican precinct committeeman. She was a member of the Warren County Senior Woman's Club, Modern Marthas and Pike township Demonstration Club. She was the oldest member of the Marshfield Presbyterian Church. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Cosma (Louise) Oliver of Church Point, La., Mrs. Elmer (Lucille) Crane of Attica and Mrs. Max (June) Miller of Brookston Route 1; a sister, Mrs. Pearl Chandler of Williamsport; four grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson. Services will be at the Fisher Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Saturday, with the Rev. William Thompson officiating. Burial will be in the West Lebanon Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 4-9 p.m. Friday.
